The Prebys Foundation provided $5.89 million to 24 organizations as part of their commitment to ensuring San Diego County youth (age 16-26) are thriving and actively engaged in their communities.
San Diego Regional Fire Foundation Announces 2024 Grants and Recognition for Local Fire Safe Councils
$250,000 in grants awarded to 24 local Fire Safe Councils throughout the San Diego region SAN DIEGO, May 30, 2024 – Today the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation announced it will be funding 24 Fire Safe Councils (FSCs) with grants totaling $250,000 to aid in wildfire prevention and preparedness, including community education to make their neighborhoods safer. The announcement was made during the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County’s 17th Annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony, which recognized several outstanding individuals and agencies for their significant contributions to fostering fire-safe and resilient communities. The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation and the San Diego River Conservancy are pleased to announce $378,958 in funding for 13 Fire Safe Councils in the Conservancy’s watershed area and a new chipper for the Alpine Fire Protection District.

San Diego Regional Fire Foundation Awards Over $123,000 to 18 local Fire Safe Councils
San Diego County has more Fire Safe Councils (FSCs) than any county in California. FSCs play a crucial role in keeping our region safe from wildfires. On May 31, the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation awarded $123,610 in grants to 18 of our local FSCs funding the critical work they do.
Supervisor Joel Anderson Visits Poway Fire Station 1!
Anderson inspects new equipment that will support firefighters’ health and safety. Recognizing the partnership of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, the City of Poway, and the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation, Supervisor Joel Anderson met with Poway firefighters to see firsthand how their new extractors were going to keep them healthy and safe. “This is a great piece of equipment that helps put the health and safety of our firefighters at the forefront of our priorities”, said Poway Deputy Chief of Operations Brian Mitchell. Celebrating Zachary
Escondido first responders that saved his life visit him on his second birthday. In January 2022 in the midst of COVID, Zachary was having trouble breathing. From a scary morning to a happy ending, the prompt response of the Escondido Fire Department saved his life. To celebrate his second birthday, the firefighters paid him a surprise visit. A fun time was had by all! You can read Zachary’s entire story HERE. The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation continues to support these heroes to help make San Diego the Safest County in the Nation!
Firefighter Emotional Wellness Grant Presented
The Trauma that Firefighters Experience on a Daily Basis Has Long Lasting Implications. “Firefighters, police officers and first responders who serve our communities are continually impacted by mental and physical stressors during emergency incidents. Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape.
Students at The Classical Academy TK-8 Developed and PRACTICED a Home Fire Escape Plan during National Fire Prevention Week The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation and the Escondido Fire Department partnered with the Classical Academy to help students and their families be prepared for a fire in their home when sometimes all you have is 1-2 minutes to escape safely. Students drew a floor plan of their home showing all doors and windows and identified two ways to get out of each room. They practiced their own home fire drill with family and planned a
$31,000 of SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED!
Each day throughout San Diego County, 700 9-1-1 calls are made for medical and other emergencies. Fire Chiefs are telling us that one of their top needs is to grow the ranks of paramedics and firefighters. To respond to this need, the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation recently provided $31,000 in scholarships to 7 individuals to assist them in their efforts to become paramedics or enroll in the fire academy. 5 of these first responders are from Chula Vista Fire Department and 2 are from North County Fire Protection District.
