2025 HIGHLIGHTS – WE’VE BEEN BUSY THIS YEAR!
To accomplish our mission to make San Diego the Safest County in the Nation, in 2025 the Fire Foundation provided over $2.5 million of critical fire suppression and prevention equipment to fire agencies throughout the County, supported Fire Safe Councils in their community-based fire prevention, education, and home hardening programs, and provided scholarships to EMTs to attend paramedic school or fire academy.

NEW SAFETY EQUIPMENT PROVIDED TO IMPERIAL BEACH FIRST RESPONDERS!
Today the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation (Fire Foundation) announced it has funded $65,342 to the City of Imperial Beach for upgraded personal safety gear that enhances protection for lifeguards and firefighters (First Responders). The investments strengthen the City’s ongoing efforts to safeguard personnel who routinely respond to emergencies in areas affected by regional water pollution originating from the Tijuana River.

MORE GRANTS TO MORE FIRE SAFE COUNCILS!
The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation announced it funded 31 Fire Safe Councils (FSC’s) with grants totaling $300,000 to aid in wildfire prevention and preparedness, including community education to make their neighborhoods safer.

The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation Received a Grant for $200,000 for Paramedic Scholarships
The Prebys Foundation provided $5.89 million to 24 organizations as part of their commitment to ensuring San Diego County youth (age 16-26) are thriving and actively engaged in their communities.

San Diego Regional Fire Foundation Announces 2024 Grants and Recognition for Local Fire Safe Councils
$250,000 in grants awarded to 24 local Fire Safe Councils throughout the San Diego region SAN DIEGO, May 30, 2024 – Today the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation announced it will be funding 24 Fire Safe Councils (FSCs) with grants totaling $250,000 to aid in wildfire prevention and preparedness, including community education to make their neighborhoods safer. The announcement was made during the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County’s 17th Annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony, which recognized several outstanding individuals and agencies for their significant contributions to fostering fire-safe and resilient communities. $378,958 in grants awarded to 13 Fire Safe Councils in the San Diego River Watershed.
The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation and the San Diego River Conservancy are pleased to announce $378,958 in funding for 13 Fire Safe Councils in the Conservancy’s watershed area and a new chipper for the Alpine Fire Protection District.

We are supporting and empowering youth through a variety of programs focused on culturally diverse underserved communities. We’re working to grow the next generation of first responders who, through their diverse backgrounds, can better address the needs of their communities.

San Diego Regional Fire Foundation Awards Over $123,000 to 18 local Fire Safe Councils
San Diego County has more Fire Safe Councils (FSCs) than any county in California. FSCs play a crucial role in keeping our region safe from wildfires. On May 31, the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation awarded $123,610 in grants to 18 of our local FSCs funding the critical work they do.

Supervisor Joel Anderson Visits Poway Fire Station 1!
Anderson inspects new equipment that will support firefighters’ health and safety. Recognizing the partnership of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, the City of Poway, and the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation, Supervisor Joel Anderson met with Poway firefighters to see firsthand how their new extractors were going to keep them healthy and safe. “This is a great piece of equipment that helps put the health and safety of our firefighters at the forefront of our priorities”, said Poway Deputy Chief of Operations Brian Mitchell. Extractors launder firefighter’s soiled turnout gear after a fire.

Celebrating Zachary
Escondido first responders that saved his life visit him on his second birthday. In January 2022 in the midst of COVID, Zachary was having trouble breathing. From a scary morning to a happy ending, the prompt response of the Escondido Fire Department saved his life. To celebrate his second birthday, the firefighters paid him a surprise visit. A fun time was had by all! You can read Zachary’s entire story HERE. The San Diego Regional Fire Foundation continues to support these heroes to help make San Diego the Safest County in the Nation!
